BOTAK JONES - AUTHENTIC AMERICAN FOOD
DAMN GOOD FOOD AT A DAMN GOOD PRICE.
I believe many of you have read about how good and how interesting about Mr Botak Jones and his food. Me too! I've read lots of reviews on it, both on the newspapers, and foodblogs. & I've included it in my 'Must-try' list.
Someday last week, Cousin Agnes took a day off work and treated my sis, aunt and me to Mr Botak Jones, the one at clementi.
The outlet at Clementi, only opens at 12noon. However, we reached there even earlier as we are aware that many other people will be patroning their stall and we didnt want to wait for too long. We were there at around 11.40am, and to our surprise, there are many people before us, waiting for the crew to start their business.
Meanwhile, we took a flipped through the menu. The menu was really cool, which is made up of sheets of yellowpaper stapled together for our convenience, and every item is described informally. See, BotakJones really give a thought to their customers! It's really hard to decide which to order, cos all the description given for the dishes and plates sounds real good.
Cajun chicken? Fish&chips? Botak burger? Rosemary lambchop?
We decided and ordered 2 plates of fish&chips, 2 plates of cajun chicken and 4bbq chicken wings upon the clock hits 12noon. We were lucky enough to get the queue no. 2 . hah, however we were told to wait for 25minutes as the food will only be cooked and fried upon placing an order, so as to give the best quality of the food. Well, 25minutes to me is quite quick as one of my friend waited for one hour plus the other time round(for dinner)!
I & Aunt had the Cajun chicken while Sis and Cousin Agnes had the fish&chips.

THIS IS THE SECOND MOST POPULAR ITEM. AFTER YOU GET OVER THE SHOCK THAT CHICKEN BREAST CAN BE TENDER AND JUICY WHEN COOKED PROPERLY, YOU REALIZE THAT IT ALSO ABSORBS FLAVOR, WHICH THE LEG AND THIGH DO NOT. THESE ARE CHAR-GRILLED WITH MOZARELLA CHEESE AND TOPPED WITH OUR SPICY CAJUN SAUCE.

To me, the chicken tasted not bad as it has got a nice grill and a flavourful cajun-sauce dressing and mozzarella cheese could be tasted with every bite. However, what i dont really like is that the meat is cut too thick, and a little dry as well. However, true to what the description says, the meat is quite juicy and not powdery, something unexpected from using the breast meat. $6.50 is quite very cheap. Why? Soooooooooo much fries and coleslaw was accompanied! Seriously, im not kidding! Lol, i guess if one have the fries only, he/she can get full already!
Well, the fries are cripsy and showered with some spices. It's very different from those Msg shakerfries in Mac. I must say that it's the best fries i've ever tried, seriously. Even better than my all time fave, longjohnsilver's.

THIS IS THE MOST POPULAR ITEM ON THE WHOLE MENU. LIKE ALMOST EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE MENU, WE MAKE IT OURSELVES. THIS IS PREMIUM PACIFIC DORY (NOT THE CHEAP ONE). WE SEASON THE FISH THEN BREAD IT WITH JAPANESE BREAD CRUMBS. IT IS ALWAYS FRESH BECAUSE WE TRY TO MAKE ONLY ENOUGH TO SELL IN ONE DAY.

Yups, i could see almost everyone who had their lunch at botakjones that day, ordered fish&chips. Some even ordered the large one($9.50, with 3 serving one dory)! But, from what i see on the tables, those we had the large portion, couldnt finish the fries and coleslaw. & it's kind of wasteful, cos the fries are really damn good. Even my sis who ordered the regular portion couldnt finish the fries. But i helped her. Lol, i was the only one out of the four of us who finish my plate of fries! Haha.
Last but not least, the barbequed wings. We ordered 4 of them, and each one cost $1.50.
We were so full after clearing those plates already, thus we requested to packet those wings back home for teatime snack. Hah.
The char-grilled wings are grilled using botakjone's special brazil-like bbq sauce which was tangy and different from the usual bbq ones we have. Wonders.
Besides these, they also have lots of other food such as sandwiches, burgers and hotdogs. Apart from the good food, their service is also excellent! The serving staff were prompt, and attentive. They would ask us how the food was, and if we enjoyed and such.
True to it's slogan, Botakjones really serves damn good food at a damn good price. The food and service is up to or even better than restaurants standard.
I really enjoyed my trip to this american food stall, definitely will pay a return visit someday soon.
