It's Xmas eve today! Haha, will be having a mini-party at granny's later on, more to come on my next post! haha :D
Anyway, to all my readers(although i know not much :x), friends, family and everyone out there,
MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Well, a new year is approaching...
Have fun!
Yesterday, which was the eve of xmas eve (lol), my cousins and i had a gathering as we seldom meet, and had a dinner together.
Well, as it's the festive season, many restaurants/eateries and even the hawkers offers christmas special meals.
We headed to the Pizza Hut, one of the most leading pizza company in singapore, at the Clementi outlet after a long singing time at kbox.
It's 4 of us in total, so we decided to get a combo meal or something, so that's it's cheaper. Also, 'Pizzahut', the name obviously hints us that the pizza there is one of their better dish they serve already, so what for buying pasta or icecream there? Haha, if we want pasta or smth, we could have headed to Pastamania already. Laughs~
So, it's pizza for us! and we had the Merry Fiesta Meal, which consists of the 1 large Merry Surprise Pizza, 6 Honey roasted wings, 12 Starry Munchies(Potatoes), 4 glasses of pepsi and 4 soups of the day.
And yesterday's soup of the day was the Cream of Mushroom soup.

The creamy smooth base was filled with sliced mushrooms which are big and bountiful, and diced onions.

The Merry Surprise Pizza! You can find 3 different kinds of cheese stuffed in the crust. Mozzarella, Parmesan and the Cheddar. The pizza is topped with a handful of ingredients. They are the Turkey Ham, Bacon Bits, Green Capsicum, Mushrooms, Almond Flakes, Pineapple cubes as well as Grilled Chicken. Not forgetting a delightful cherry in the middle!
The thickness of the crust was alright and it's easy to chew. The flaky crust is browned on the bottom and is merged with the creamy sauce where it meets the cheese and oils on top. The texture of the crust is crispy and firm, not soggy at all.
The browned cheese was the best part to me. The cheese is not very stringy because it is thoroughly cooked and separated from the oils.

Dipped into honey, before frying it till browned skin.
Honey roasted wings arent the best chicken meat that pizzahut offers. I prefer the sweet and spicy drumlets much more compared to this. Oh, and it's a little oily yeah.
Last but not all, the Starry Munchies.

These fried potato bits are shaped into stars. Very appealing, especially to the kids. It tasted like any other hashbrowns or fries, the only special thing is that
it is oven-baked, thus a healthier alternative. Also, the sauce provided arent tartar sauce, salad dressing or mayonnaise. It's the tomato salsa.
It's quite a filling meal, especially after having the pizza, as the cheese in there makes you kind of, full.
&yes, we did enjoy our meal :)

Last friday was the Winter Solstice (Dong Zhi). Many cultures celebrate various combinations of the winter solstices, leading to various holidays arising around these events. For instance, Christmas.
In the Gregorian calendar, Dōngzhì usually begins around December 21 (December 22 East Asia time) and ends around January 5. The Chinese character 至 means extreme, so the terms for the summer and winter solstice directly signify the summits of summer and winter, a linkage absent in Western languages.
- taken from here.
The purpose of Winter Solstice is firstly, to strengthen family bonding with each other and to connect with the ancestors. & also, celebrations of Winter Solstice is essential for families as it also educates the young about ancient and contemporary folkways so that they can have deeper understanding about the spiritual renewal and love. It eventually expands upon Christmas.
& on that very day, most of us will eat the glutinous rice balls (tang yuan). Well, now in the markets, there're lots of different fillings of glutinous rice balls available, ranging from the peanut to sesame, and more. However, during the olden days(now too), the elders would prefer the plain ones.
That morning, my aunt and i made some plain tangyuan out of the glutinous rice flour. There's pink and white ones! :)

That's my aunt!

& the bouncing balls! uncooked by the way.
& after praying, and offering a few bowls of tangyuan to the ancestors, the whole family sat down together and enjoy of tangyuans! Brown sugar and pandan leaves were use in making this tangyuan dessert.

Oh, and dipped our riceballs into a bowl of crushed peanuts before eating.
Toodles!
Hohoho!
